Looking for a flexible tax internship that fits into your 2027 spring semester? We are hiring in-person tax interns for all five of our offices for tax season. Hogan-Hansen is a multifaceted CPA firm that serves multiple communities with 5 offices across Iowa. This internship is designed for students who want meaningful, real-world tax experience with the option to continue their coursework at the same time. Interns will work at least 15 hours per week from late January through mid-April 2027, with the flexibility to work up to 40 hours per week if desired. The starting pay rate is $20 per hour, with hours worked over 15 in a week paid at $22 per hour. You will prepare tax returns, ask questions, learn the process alongside other interns, and see how accounting concepts come to life during one of the busiest and most important seasons in public accounting.

Internship Duties

  • Prepare simple and normal difficulty individual income tax returns
  • Learn UltraTax and other Thomson Reuters software
  • Apply training knowledge to real client situations with guidance from experienced tax professionals
  • Communicate with mentors and staff when questions come up during the preparation process
  • Protect client confidentiality by following firm procedures for handling information
  • Learn alongside other interns in a collaborative, in-person office environment
  • Contribute to the team during tax season through other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong communication skills with staff, mentors, and clients
  • Attention to detail and the ability to stay organized during a fast-moving season
  • A willingness to ask questions, learn from feedback, and put training into practice
  • Problem-solving skills and curiosity about how tax rules apply to real-world situations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite and Adobe

Education and Experience

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student in Accounting, related degree programs such as Finance or MBA may be considered
  • Sophomore standing or above required
  • Prior accounting, tax, or related internship/work experience preferred but not required
